BROTHER and sister Tim and Ciaran Jasper have made a big splash for charity.

Tim, 11, and Ciaran, nine, of Sedgefield village, swam their 5,000m distance awards on Saturday, and at the same time raised £1,150 for The Cornel Romanian Rehabilitation Centre Trust.

The youngsters were inspired by the story of Pride of Britain award winner Cornel Hrisca-Munn. Cornel, who was born without lower arms and a deformed leg, raises thousands of pounds through his charity for projects such as the creation of the centre for amputees in Romania.

Tim and Ciaran each swam 150 lengths of the pool in Billingham Forum, where they are members of a swimming club.

Their mother, Julia Jasper, deputy head at Carmel RC College, Darlington, said: "We're really proud of their efforts and grateful to their sponsors, many of them from Carmel College and St John Fisher Church, Sedgefield."
