A TEN-year-old boy has choked to death while eating a kebab.

Christopher Curtis is believed to have choked on a piece of food as he ate. His mother, Shelly, frantically tried to resuscitate him.

Christopher, of Walker, Newcastle, was pronounced dead in hospital on Thursday evening.

Mrs Curtis, 35, said: "When he started to choke, I tried to pat him on the back and I was panicking.

''When I saw it was not coming up, I phoned 999 and they told me to give him five pushes on his ribcage, but it became too late and his heart stopped."

Christopher was a pupil of Christ Church Primary School, in Shieldfield, who loved basketball, riding his bike and football.

Teacher Karen Sample said: ''The children are missing him a lot and they do seem quite subdued. He will be missed a lot.

"He was a very bright child and everyone knew that in science he would always have the right answers. There was not a bad bone in his body.
