A PIZZA shop has reopened after magistrates closed it for being dirty.
Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council officials served an Emergency Prohibition Notice on Goojys Pizzeria, in Allendale Road, Ormesby, Middlesbrough, on March 4.
Magistrates confirmed the order after hearing how a routine food inspection found a lack of routine cleaning, foodstuffs at risk of contamination and serious contraventions of the Food Safety (General Food Hygiene) Regulations 1995.
Paul Stenson, the council's food safety manager said: "The standards of hygiene and the manner in which the premises were being operated were extremely poor.
"The food team took immediate action to close the food business to remove the risk of injury to health.
"I can also report that following three days of cleaning and improvements at the premises, the council has now permitted the proprietor to reopen his business. We will continue to monitor standards."
