AN exhibition of paintings and ceramics by a prisoner who conspired to blow up the Israeli embassy will take place at the Lamplight Arts Centre, in Stanley.

Palestinian Jawad Botmeh has been held in prison since 1996 when he and Samar Alami were convicted of conspiracy in relation to the 1994 bombings of the Israeli embassy and Balfour House, in London.

He started painting in prison and has produced a series of images which express his feelings about love, transformation and personal development as well as wider political and social concerns about the destruction of Palestinian life. The County Durham Palestine Solidarity Campaign has campaigned to free the pair, who have always protested their innocence.

The exhibition runs from Monday until the end of March.
