VULNERABLE residents were advised yesterday on ways to protect themselves from bogus callers.
As part of a Home Office campaign to protect elderly people, the Lock, Stop, Chain and Check campaign arrived in Redcar.
It is backed by organisations including Age Concern and Gala Bingo, and thousands of leaflets and stickers will be delivered to elderly residents to help ensure they carry out simple steps to doorstep security.
Former newsreader Angela Rippon is heading a list of celebrities who are supporting the campaign, which advises older people on how to avoid conmen.
Last year, The Northern Echo launched its Doorstoppers Campaign to raise awareness of the dangers faced from bogus callers and door-to-door salesmen.
