A TAPESTRY featuring a famous local cheese was among wall hangings unveiled by primary school pupils this week.
Students have produced squares of artwork depicting the history of their area.
The artwork is on display at the Bowes Museum, in Barnard Castle.
Pupils from Cotherstone school created a tapestry based on Cotherstone cheese, which is made using Teesdale milk.
Pupils from Bowes School based their tapestry on Dotheboys Hall, the boarding school in their village, which featured in Charles Dickens' Nicholas Nickleby.
Children from Staindrop have recreated the area's Roman roads and pupils from Woodland school have portrayed local coal mines.
Students also produced sculptured cubes based on their tapestries during the event, which was organised by the Green Explorers, a life skills group.
The sessions included a maths project on square roots. All the squares and cubes created have been included in the exhibition.
Anne Noble, who runs the Green Explorers, said: "Pupils have produced a lot of beautiful work, so I'm sure it will be a first-rate exhibition.
