AN airline has launched flights to German cities from Newcastle International Airport.
Hapag-Lloyd Express (HLX) began flying from Tyneside to Hanover last year and the route has proved so successful it has increased its destinations at the weekend.
It runs four return flights each week to Cologne and Bonn and three to Munich.
Chris Sanders, the airport's aviation development manager, said: "German cities have a lot to offer and we are delighted that HLX have chosen to expand from Newcastle."
