AN embroidery group will mark its tenth anniversary by staging an exhibition.
The Durham branch of the Embroiderers Guild will stage the exhibition in the Monks' Dormitory at Durham Cathedral, from August 15 to 29.
It will feature work produced by members during the past ten years as well as new work inspired by the Cathedral and the Lindisfarne Gospels.
The branch will also stage workshops and a second exhibition in the cathedral's Gallilee Chapel, which will feature 14 panels produced by guild branches for the Year of Visual Arts in 1995.
The branch, which has 60 adult and 14 young members, has been given £500 by Durham City Arts and £350 by the North-Eastern and Cumbrian Co-op.
Branch secretary Ros Barnes said: "Some people have a conventional view of embroidery as something rather staid and limiting.
"We are trying to show the length and breadth of what it can encompass. It has moved on and it isn't just cross-stitch."
