An all-Northern League FA Vase final at White Hart Lane is a distinct possibility after Jarrow Roofing caused yet another upset by beating Frome 3-0 on Saturday, writes Ray Simpson.

Roofing have been underdogs in most of their ties so far, but striker Craig Nelson maintained his record of scoring in every round by netting twice to see off the Western League side.

Roofing boss Richie McLoughlin said: "The players again responded very well to the occasion.

"They never let Frome settle in midfield, and they were unable to get their game going.

"We over ran them at times, and we had many more chances than them in the game.

"It's a long way to Didcot, but it doesn't bother us going away from home, because we've already won twice away from home in the competition so far."

Roofing could even afford to miss a 13th minute penalty when Nelson was brought down, but the Frome keeper saved Justin Perry's spot kick.

Roofing took the lead on 16 minutes when Nelson scored from a Keith Hutchinson pass, and they went further ahead just before half-time when Nelson dribbled past three defenders and scored from ten yards out for a brilliant goal.

Nelson missed two chances for his hat-trick in the second half, but Paul Hodgson finished off the visitors' challenge with a 20 yard effort after 61 minutes.

Roofing now play Didcot in a two-legged semi-final over the next two Saturdays, while Northern League colleagues Bedlington take on competition favourites Sudbury.
