A RUNDOWN Stockton pub is having a £310,000 facelift.

Work has already begun at The Eaglescliffe, on Yarm Road, with work due to be finished by April 1.

Improvements being made at the pub, owned by Punch Taverns, includes a refurbished conservatory-style extension, an extended bar area, easier access for the disabled and a new kitchen.

Donald Stephens and his son, Ian Parker, who is the landlord of the Beacon pub in nearby Eston, is behind the development.

Mr Stephens said: "This investment is long overdue and I'm delighted to be at the helm of The Eaglescliffe at such an exciting time of development.

"The aim of this project is to bring the pub back to local customers, who I'm sure will be absolutely delighted with the results when we re-open next month."

The pub will keep its residential facilities, with nine rooms available to let.
