HOUSEHOLDS throughout Richmondshire have started receiving green wheeled bins for garden waste.
The new service, by Richmondshire District Council, will enable 10,000 residents to recycle grass clippings, hedge trimmings, leaves, weeds, dead plants and small branches.
The waste will be collected fortnightly, composted locally and used as a soil conditioner.
"The new scheme is an excellent way of reducing what we throw away and increasing the amount we recycle in Richmondshire," said Councillor Jill McMullon, the council's champion for recycling, who is pictured with one of the bins.
"I hope people will start using their green bin for their garden rubbish as soon as possible."
For more information on the service, call the recycling helpline on (01748) 829145.
