FIVE representatives of the Romanian sheep industry are touring North Yorkshire to look at breeding stock and technology.

The group, accompanied by a representative from the British Embassy in Bucharest, is visiting four farms with a view to opening new markets.

The visit is being financed by North Yorkshire County Council's export development programme and included a trip to the North Sheep event at Whinfell Park, near Penrith, yesterday.

Councillor John Fort said: "We have been working on the project for six months.

"It includes the beef and sheep meat sectors and is underpinned by a series of export development workshops from which we select candidates for reciprocal overseas missions."
