Matthew Hoggard is all set to play in the Roses match at Headingley tomorrow after Yorkshire and England yesterday expressed themselves satisfied that the pain he has felt in his ankle and hip should not cause him any serious problems.

His presence in the side of their will provide a big boost to Yorkshire as they seek to beat Lancashire and strengthen their chance of promotion in the Championship, before turning their attentions to Twenty-20 Cup cricket after next Sunday's totesport league fixture with Leicestershire at Grace Road.

Hoggard, man-of-the-match after his eight wickets in England's innings victory over Bangladesh at Riverside on Sunday, comes into the Yorkshire side at the expense of Chris Silverwood, who is still struggling to find his best form.

Left-arm swing bowler, David Lucas, signed from Nottinghamshire during the close season, is also included in Yorkshire's squad of 12 after grabbing six wickets for 20 runs on his county debut against the students.

Hoggard's return means Lucas will not feature on this occasion but, he is on the fringes of selection and can look forward to an extended run once Hoggard returns to England in the second half of the summer.

Hoggard was checked over by Yorkshire physiotherapist, Scott McAllister, at Headingley yesterday, after the bowler had experienced some discomfort in his ankle and hip during the Test match.

But Hoggard assured McAllister the niggles were not serious and stressed he wanted to play in the Roses match to improve his bowling rhythm.

"After satisfying myself that Matthew was fit to play, I contacted the England physiotherapist, Craig Ranson, and as a result England agreed that he could be included in the side," said McAllister.

"We will keep an eye on him and see how he goes and he will have any treatment that is necessary.

"Matthew is really eager to play and he is aware that there will be opportunities for him to rest if he wishes to once the Roses game is over."

Most of Yorkshire's team will go into the match refreshed from over a week without cricket and the break has given Anthony McGrath an opportunity to have an injection into a thumb muscle which troubled him during the Championship match against Essex.
