Two men have been charged after a man collapsed after a chase through Leadgate.
Wayne Kirchner, 21, of Villa Real, and Ricky New, 18, of Delves Lane, are accused of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
They were remanded in custody by Peterlee magistrates and willl appear before Durham Crown Court at a date to be fixed.
The 20-year-old victim of the incident, which started near the junction of Laurel Drive and Durham Road in the town last Wednesday, is still in the University Hospital of North Durham where his condition is said to be satisfactory.
