A PRIMARY school's pupils have taken part in a poster competition as part of a drive to stamp out anti-social behaviour in a community.

Eight children at St Benet's School in Ouston, near Chester-le-Street, were presented with prizes following the contest which forms part of a Streetsafe initiative.

Durham Constabulary youth issues officer PC Karen Hall and Chester-le-Street District Council anti-social behaviour officer Sarah Holmes have been holding a series of lessons for pupils.

They have been telling them about the effects of anti-social behaviour on others and about anti-social behaviour orders and acceptable behaviour contracts.

The winners were Daniel Chan, Carmen Dixon, Samantha Turnbull, Joshua Wakeling, Callum Oliver, Grace Ward, Ross Carroll and Maeghan Prandoczky.

The Streetsafe initiative is the third of its kind by Durham Police. Previous campaigns, in Brandon and Sacriston, were hailed as successes.
