A 33-year-old man has tonight been charged with the murder of a widow who was strangled in her bed shortly before a fire broke out in her home.
Patricia Thompson, 85, died in her home in Emma Simpson Court in the Hartburn area of Stockton on the evening of Saturday, September 5.
The man who has been charged is from the South Bank area. He is due to appear before Teesside magistrates in the morning.
Mrs Thompson was a retired school teacher who leaves three children and six grandchildren.
