Stuart Swales will make a dramatic return to Premier League racing as he lines up for the Bears against the Birmingham Brummies at the South Tees Motorsport Park on Thursday evening at 7.30pm.

The Stockton- based ex- Middlesbrough Bear is a member of the Swales speedway dynasty on Teesside with two generations involved at the previous Cleveland Park circuit. Stuart last rode speedway for the Glasgow Tigers in season 2001 but has impressed on his comeback rides in non-league events giving Bears boss Brian Havelock the task of having to break the news to Benji Compton that he was being removed from the team to bring Stuart in. Comments Brian in his programme editorial this week: 'It's very hard to tell a rider he is being dropped from the team mid-season as he may not get back into a side to ride again during 2009. Benji has done a great job for the Bears in the past and we wish him well in his riding career.'

Stuart rejoins the Bears after a busy but satisfactory week for the team. A home victory surrounded by points on the road at Birmingham and Scunthorpe climaxing with an away victory in South Wales on Sunday afternoon when they eliminated the Newport Wasps from the Knockout Cup competition.

The match at Birmingham went to a last heat decider with Redcar picking up a bonus point under the division's new scoring system with a narrow 47-43 defeat. There were fireworks in the pits after the final heat between Birmingham's Polish star Tomasz Piszcz and Redcar's young Australian rider Ty Proctor after very robust tactics by Piszcz on the final lap. Ty left Tomasz in no doubts what he thought and their races on Thursday should be worth the price of admission alone! Besides the East European heat leader the Brummies have an outstanding number one in veteran Australian Jason Lyons and a talented younger compatriot of his in the form of 18-year-old Richard Sweetman who won all five races that he completed against the Bears in the West Midlands last week.
