TELEVISION presenter Alan Titchmarsh was in the region yesterday to mark the start of building work at a green learning centre.
The former Gardeners’ World presenter marked the launch of the project at the Royal Horticultural Society garden at Harlow Carr, in Harrogate.
The centre will equip children and adults with the know-how and inspiration to get into the garden.
Mr Titchmarsh spoke about the centre’s green credentials and its importance to the local community.
About 2,500 children from the region visit the garden each year.
It is expected the figure will quadruple to about 10,000 pupils when the centre opens early next year.
