STANHOPE residents can stave off festive weight gain this Christmas at a newly opened community gym in the town.
Wear Valley District Council has installed a legacy gym in the Town Hall, featuring treadmills, exercise bikes, and rowing machines.
The volunteer-run gym was launched after the council's Wellness on Wheels (Wow) mobile fitness unit proved so popular amongst residents.
Councillor Richard Mews joined chairman Ken Elgey and a team of volunteers to officially open the facility on Monday.
Five other legacy gyms operate throughout the district at Tindale Crescent, Coundon, Tow Law, Willington, and St Johns Chapel, and another is due to open at Eldon Lane.
For opening times, contact Ken Elgey on 07879-867-117, or to become a volunteer contact the councils fitness manager Julie Tyrie on: 07879-661-334.
