A man has faced fines and points on his licence for speeding above the 70mph limit on the A1(M).
On February 11, 2024, Daniel McLaughlin, 22, of Lund Avenue, Durham, was caught speeding on the A1(M) motorway between junctions 61 (Bowburn) and 62 (Carrville), County Durham.
He was driving a SEAT, and was found to have exceeded the 70 mph speed limit.
McLaughlin pleaded guilty to the offence under the Single Justice Procedure, and on October 10, 2024, he was sentenced at Peterlee Magistrates' Court.
His penalty included a fine of £360, along with additional charges: a £144 surcharge to fund victim services and £110 in court costs, bringing his total financial penalties to £614.

In addition to the fines, McLaughlin’s driving record was endorsed with six penalty points.
Although his guilty plea was taken into account when imposing the sentence, he must now adhere to a payment plan of £205 per month, starting from November 7, 2024.
His conviction and penalty points have been recorded with the DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency).
