Footage has emerged of a very brave squirrel leading traffic through and running the length of one of the North East busiest traffic tunnels.
There was an unexpected animal visitor in the Tyne Tunnel last week in the form of an inquisitive squirrel who was picked up by cameras entering the tunnel from Jarrow heading north on Friday (September 27).
Footage posted by the tunnel's social media page shows the rodent in the middle of the road between a van and mini leading the traffic which luckily slowed down to make sure it did not get hurt.

Luckily, the squirrel was able to make a safe exit after its mile-long journey into woodland in Howden and was unscathed.
Drivers who let the squirrel lead the way have also been thanked for their patience.
