A man has appeared in court after a 16-year-old by tragically lost his life in a crash late last week.
Emergency services attended Walker Road in Byker, Newcastle just before 9pm on Friday (September 27) following a crash between a silver VW car and a cycle.
The bike rider, who has now been named as teenager Jayden McGuinness from Walker was rushed to hospital with serious injuries but later died.
Following the crash, Ryan Elsender, 28, of Lichfield Avenue, in Newcastle – was then charged with death by dangerous driving as the investigation continues.
He appeared at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court yesterday (September 30) where he was remanded into custody.
Officers continue to appeal to anyone with information regarding the collision to come forward.
Sergeant Russell Surrey, of Northumbria Police, said: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are firmly with Jayden’s family at this devastating time.
“We will offer them any support they need.”

Sgt Surrey added: “We continue to appeal for any witnesses to what took place on Walker Road on Friday evening to come forward.
“We are particularly keen for those with dash cam footage of the moments leading up to the collision to contact us.
“A man has now been charged in relation to the incident and we would ask that members of the public refrain from speculation – either online or in the community – and respect the legal process.”
