A Darlington road has been dug up for the second time in a matter of weeks after recent resurfacing did not meet the grade, it has been revealed.

Salters Lane is undergoing roadworks for the second time in a matter of a month after engineers found previous resurfacing was not to the "required specification".

This comes after Salters Lane North, between North Road and Thompson Street East, was be closed from Monday, July 29 for two weeks.

The second phase of roadworks, from Oakwood Drive to Thompson Street East, took place and was completed between Monday, August 5, until Friday, August 9.

A Darlington Borough Council spokesman said: “Salters Lane was inspected by our engineers after the recent resurfacing scheme and there were some locations which were not to the required specification.

“We discussed this with our surfacing contractor, who has since returned to carry out the remedial works required. All costs for this work are covered by the contractor.”

The council also confirmed that ongoing works on Albert Road are being carried out by Northern Gas Works.
