A man was brought down by police with tasers after a pursuit after two men were spotted stealing goods from a parked HGV.
Police were called to Durham Services just after midnight in the early hours of Thursday (September 26) when two men were seen taking goods from a slashed lorry.
But as officers were on their way to the scene their blue lights scared off the driver of a car who did an illegal u-turn and ran a red light to escape.
A chase ensued when the car failed to stop.
It suddenly stopped in the hard should and four men dressed in black legged it over the road barrier, putting their lives at risk.
One of the men, aged 32, was tasered and detained. He was arrested on suspicion of theft and possession of a controlled drug, and taken into custody.

The 45-year-old driver was also detained at the scene and arrested on suspicion of theft, failing to stop and careless driving.
When the driver was taken to custody it was realised he was wanted by Police Scotland and further arrested for driving while disqualified and having no insurance.
The men remain in custody and a search is on for the remaining suspects.
