A driver from Darlington has been banned from driving for six months after speeding on a stretch of the A1(M).
Barry Athey, 57, of Gurney Street in Darlington, pleaded guilty to speeding on the A1(M) between J61 Bowburn to J60 Bradbury in County Durham, surpassing the 70 mph limit.
The incident occurred on January 19, 2024, when Athey was behind the wheel of his Audi.
Athey was prosecuted under Single Justice Procedure at the Peterlee Magistrates’ Court on September 5 this year after pleading guilty at an earlier hearing on August 13.

He was not physically present during the September hearing.
He was fined £120, instructed to pay a £48 surcharge to aid victim services, and cover costs amounting to £110.
Athey’s driving licence will be suspended for six months due to repeat offending.
