A Met Office spokesperson said: "A rather grey and murky day, with outbreaks of light rain and drizzle at times, especially on hills and coastal counties.
"Feeling cool, especially on windward coasts, with a brisk easterly wind, which will be notably gusty over the Pennines. Maximum temperature 13 °C.
"Staying rather cloudy, with extensive low cloud and further outbreaks of light rain and drizzle at times, especially on windward coasts and hills."
