Five people have been heavily fined in court for littering at bus and service stations in County Durham, while several County Durham residents have been fined for failing to clear their litter out of their gardens.
All five people have been listed below and appeared at both Peterlee Magistrates' Court and Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court last week.
Five people fined for littering at County Durham venues:
Zani Ali, of Radford Bridge Road, Nottingham was issued with a fixed penalty notice for littering at Durham Services back in May this year, however, he failed to pay. He has now landed himself a criminal record and left to pay £438 in fines & costs.
Abu Kader of Talbot Road, Birmingham was also issued with a fixed penalty notice for littering at Durham Services back in May this year and he also failed to pay which landed him a criminal record and £438 out of pocket in fines & costs.
Thomas Clark, 33 of Horsley Close, Craghead was spotted by a Neighbourhood Warden depositing litter outside Durham Bus Station back in February this year.
He was issued with a fixed penalty notice but he did not pay. He pleaded guilty to the offence and now he's left to pay £156 in fines & costs and hit with a criminal record.
At a separate hearing, Barry Webb, 59 of Thames Street, Easington Lane was found guilty after he was spotted by a Neighbourhood Warden carrying scrap metal back in December 2023.
Webb was sent paperwork requiring them to send in a valid waste carrier licence and waste transfer notes, however, he failed to produce these documents.
As a result, he has been hit with a total of £1290 in fines & costs along with a criminal record.
Anthony John Orange, of Durham Chare, Bishop Auckland, failed to comply with a community protection notice on or before March 22, 2024.
He allowed accumulations of waste in the yard of his residence, which defaced the land with litter and/or refuse to the detriment of the locality's amenities.

The verdict was proved on August 28, 2024, through the Single Justice Procedure.
He was fined £220, ordered to pay a victim services surcharge of £88, and ordered to pay costs of £330 to the Crown Prosecution Service.
A collection order was made and all penalties are ordered to be paid by September 25, 2024, with a balance due of £638.
