North Road in Darlington was closed as emergency services dealt with the aftermath of a serious crash this morning.
Pictures from the scene showed a white Suzuki half suspended in the air on a signpost.
It had lost a wheel in the crash and one of the doors had come off.
Beside it was a police car which had a badly damaged front end.
The incident is believed to have happened at around 10.30am this morning (August 31).
A number of police cars, fire engines and an ambulance attended the scene.
The road was quickly cordoned off as police inspected the scene, drawing chalk outlines around the vehicles involved.
North Road was then closed and drivers advised to avoid the area.
We have approached Durham Police and the North East Ambulance Service for more information about the incident.
