Three men are due to appear in court this morning for their part in violent disorder in Sunderland last Friday (August 2).
A march that was held on the day in protest of the Southport Stabbing that killed three young girls quickly became violent.
Crowds began throwing a number of missiles at officers in riot gear before one group tipped over a car and set it on fire.
Hundreds of people gathered at Keel Square in Sunderland city centre for a planned protest.
Later in the evening, there was a stand-off at a mosque that quickly lead to violence spilling into neighbouring streets.
Now three men are set to appear at South Tyneside Magistrates Court this morning for their part in the disorder.
Who are they?
- Paul Williams, 45, of Esdale, Sunderland, has been charged with violent disorder.
- Dean Groenewald, 32, of no fixed abode, has been charged with violent disorder.
- Liam Doeg, 33, of Tatham Street, Sunderland, has been charged with violent disorder.
Meanwhile, a number of Middlesbrough, Darlington and Hartlepool rioters are also set to be sentenced today at Teesside Magistrates Court.
Charlie Bullock, 21, (Middlesborough), Stacy Vint, 34 (Middlesbrough, Thomas Rodgers, 22 (Middlesbrough, and Cole Stewart, 18, (Darlington) pleaded guilty to violent disorder.
