A cherished member of the Darlington community is being remembered with funds raised for the donation of two recliner chairs.

They will be available for use at the Intensive Care Unit at Darlington Memorial Hospital in memory of Alan Bushby,  who died in January at the age of 66.

Alan, the dearly beloved husband of Julie, was a much-loved father to Stu, Ben, and Thomas, a dear father-in-law to Claire and Laura, and a loving brother to Colin.

He was also an adored 'funny' grandad to Chloe, Katie, Sophie, and Amelia and a valued employee at the Tetley Tea Factory, where he made many lifelong friends.

In recognition of the exceptional care Alan received during his time in the unit, funds were raised through contributions made at his funeral and various fundraising activities spearheaded by family, friends, and colleagues.

Julie Bushby said: “We wanted to give something back as a 'thank you' to the entire team of doctors, nurses, therapists, and all the staff at at Darlington Memorial Hospital who cared for Alan.

“So for us, it was a no-brainer; we wanted to raise funds to support patients and their families, and we hope these new recliner chairs will help make a difference.

"We’re so grateful to our family and friends, to Alan’s colleagues, and the pupils at the UTC South Durham who have all come together to raise money.”

Ward Sister Sarah Sherlock expressed the hospital's appreciation, adding: “We are so grateful to Julie, the Bushby family, and all involved in raising funds for this generous donation of two new recliner chairs.

"The chairs are now in use for patients and families in the department here at Darlington Memorial Hospital.

"They will assist with the comfort of patients as well as for relatives who want a more comfortable option for resting next to their loved ones.”
