An overturned car was set on fire in one of the worst examples of violent disorder in Sunderland city centre as disorder continued.
Rioters could be seen rolling the car, which was set alight shortly afterwards.
Police in protective gear have come under sustained attack from seveal hundred rioters since a march set off from the city's Keel Square at 7pm.

The violence has been condemned by North East Mayor Kim McGuinness, who said: “I’m appalled by scenes from Sunderland. Make no mistake, if your response to tragedy is to use it to commit violence, to abuse others, attack the police and damage property you stand for nothing except thuggery. It’s not protest."
It's the latest in a series of disturbances in English cities, including Hartlepool, this week, since three children were killed in a mass stabbing in Southport on Monday.
