Two people were taken to hospital following a crash at Neville's Cross in Durham City this evening.
Emergency services were alerted to a collision between two cars on the A167 Newcastle/Darlington Road at its junction with the A690, shortly after 7pm on Thursday (August 1).
A paramedic crew came on the scene while traveling to hospital and stopped to treat several casualties at the scene.
Police arrived and closed off part of the road, as two people were taken to the nearby University of Durham Hospital by backup ambulance crews.
The collision caused significant traffic disruption, before the cars were removed.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We received a call at 19.16h today (August 1)to attend a two vehicle road traffic collision on A167 Newcastle Road/ Darlington Road close to the junction with A690 in Nevilles Cross.
"Shortly afterwards, one of our paramedic crews came across the incident while travelling to hospital. Five patients were treated on scene and two patients were taken to hospital after back-up crews arrived on scene."
Durham Police have been contacted for further information.
