SHEFFIELD Eagles boss Mark Aston is taking nothing for granted against a “desperate” York Knights on Sunday (3pm).

The sides will meet at the LNER Community Stadium in the semi final of the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup - with the winner facing either Wakefield Trinity or Bradford Bulls at Wembley Stadium on June 8.

Whilst the Knights are languishing at the wrong end of the Betfred Championship table, Aston’s high-flying Eagles have lost just once - a 36-10 defeat to title favourites Wakefield Trinity last weekend.

But he warned Andrew Henderson’s side have nothing to lose in their plight for a morale-boosting victory.

“It’s one of those games that you want to play in, and as a coach you’d love to play in,” Aston told the club.

“We had a run out against Wakefield last week and came unstuck, it gave us a bit of a slap in the chops, which is good. We’re back on the horse, as the saying goes.

“To be in a semi final with the chance of playing at Wembley is something both teams will be relishing.

“I know that York have had a tough start, but they’ve got the quality of players, there’s no doubt about it, and in Andrew Henderson, they’ve got a good coach.

“They’ve got nothing to lose, they’re desperate, and teams like that are always ones you need to keep an eye on.”

Sheffield already have one win to their name against the Knights this season - a 32-16 victory in the Betfred Challenge Cup in February.

But with York seeing Will Dagger dismissed before half-time and both Jordan Thompson and Jesse Dee spending time in the sin-bin, Aston is expecting a different proposition this time around.

“I think they’re a little bit low on confidence,” he continued.

“But I think there’s danger when teams are desperate and they’re going to be desperate.

“They got booed off at half time last week which is not something that they’ve been used to because they’ve been very, very good.”
