A MAN has been fined after he missed appointments with Powys probation officers - after he was admitted to hospital.
Darren Roberts, 36, was praised when appearing at Welshpool Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, April 30, for completing all of the unpaid work hours handed to him as part of a community order made last November for drug driving offences.
He was appearing at court after breaching the order by failing to attend one probation appointment last November and failing to show up for an unpaid work appointment in March.
Roberts, of Maesgarmon, Castle Caereinion, admitted breaching the order.
Probation officer Julian Davies said Roberts had completed all 120 hours of his unpaid work.

“After his failure to attend, he was issued with a final warning letter and then in March a breach letter was issued as no evidence was provided for the missed appointment,” said Mr Davies.
“He had a medical reason, but we can’t accept that. He has attended 17 appointments and completed all 120 hours of his unpaid work.”
Representing himself, Roberts said: “The latest breach was because I had a twisted bowel, and I was admitted to hospital, I was there for a day.
“I tried contacting probation but got no response. I had good reason but I deeply apologise.”
Roberts was fined £40 and told to pay £60 costs.
