100 year old Morris Minor has first oil change near Whitby

A 100-YEAR-OLD car that was the first to leave the Morris Motors factory had its first oil change, in November 2013.

The 1913 Bullnose Morris Oxford, which had been kept in pristine condition by Cliff Jowsey, of Egton, near Whitby, for 50 years, had only had one owner.

The car, which for five decades was displayed at a London car dealership before businessman Mr Jowsey bought it, was the centrepiece of a Classic Car Show at the NEC in Birmingham, which attracted more than 100,000 visitors.

Antique car collector Mr Jowsey said he was delighted that the vehicle had received recognition as a piece of history.

"It has just been in the garage with all my other cars.

The brass has to be polished and it has to be covered up.

"Looking closely at the paintwork, you can see that it has started to crack and the leather is still original.

"We take it down to the village every now and then and it dances about a bit, but I think it has only done about 5,000 miles, so there has never been a need to change the oil."

Footsore charity runner struggled through a gruelling 62-mile race to raise £1,096 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Neil Thomas, 33, of Thistle Close, Spennymoor, took 14 hours and 55 minutes to complete the Norfolk Ultra Marathon along the Norfolk coast, in November 2013.

Mr Thomas, a human resources manager at Walkers Foods, said: "I never really got my head round how long a distance it was.

"I did a half marathon about five years ago and I play a bit of football but I don't do regular exercise.

"The longest training run which I did was one of 29 miles and so to get to 32 miles and then have to turn back was a bit hard."

Reflective artwork by three of the world's most famous musicians was revealed at the weekend of November 23 and 24, 2013.

Another side to the artistic talents of John Lennon, Ronnie Wood and Bob Dylan was on show during a four-hour art exhibition.

The event featured originals and limited edition prints and was staged in the keep at Raithwaite Hall, near Whitby.

The work included several portraits by Ronnie Wood, including an image of Muhammad Ali and a sketch of John Lennon.
