Residents have reacted with horror after a late evening incident saw much of their main street cordoned off, with police standing guard through the night.
Police taped off a section of Shildon's Main Street late yesterday (Wednesday, November 15), close to Shildon Express and the police station
The cordon was removed this morning.
One shop worker said: "There is still big uproar about these things. We have had guns and knives and everything like that around here but it doesn't happen regularly.
"But this community supports its people if they are in need, someone will always help. Shildon is a good place to live."

An eyewitness at the scene last night added: "There were two police vans with officers just guarding the scene.
"It's right outside the Shildon Express. It's literally at the back of the town police station."
The police have been contacted for more information on the incident.
