A police officer suffered injuries to his leg when he was attacked by a large Malinois dog after his van was smashed with a pole today (Saturday, January 23).

Chaos broke out on Park Avenue, South Bank, Middlesbrough at 2pm after officers were called out to deal with an incident.

Cleveland Police said officers were attending an address in the street in response to a report of violence when the attack happened.

A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: “A 27-year-old man from Middlesbrough has been arrested following an incident in Park Avenue, Southbank.

“The incident happened at 2pm today, Saturday 23 September, when officers attended an address in response to a report of violence.

“Upon arrival at the property, a police vehicle was smashed with a pole causing significant damage to the windscreen of the vehicle.

“A Police Officer was then bitten by a large Malinois dog, sustaining injuries to his leg.

The 27-year-old-man was arrested on suspicion of common assault, battery, affray and attempted section 18 assault. The man remains in police custody.
