Caps and tracksuit bottoms have been strictly banned on a weekend by owners at a North East pub.

The Miners Arms, on Eston High Street, which has just undergone a plush £130,000 renovation, has announced that it will operate a dress code on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, meaning those that wear caps and tracksuit bottoms will be banned from their local venue.

After the venue made the decision, customers were quick to voice their opinion on the new dress code, with the majority in support of the move.

The venue reminded people that "no tracksuits or sportswear will be allowed" on Friday and Saturday evenings, and said to "not be offended if you get asked to leave."

In a post on Facebook, the venue said: "Hi guys, just to let everybody know we will be operating a dress code on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights from 7pm. No caps and no tracksuit bottoms, this includes the garden area. Many thanks for your co-operation."

One person said on Facebook: "Good move, need to establish standards." Another simply said: "Great job."

But it hasn't gone down well with everyone, with one commenting: "I wont be going then, it's a shame really because I've heard good things."

Another added: "We are talking about the Miners Arms here, not the Ritz. What a joke."

It's not the first time a Teesside pub has enforced a similar dress code rule.

Last year, Manjaros Kitchen and Cocktails in Ingleby Barwick urged diners to dress "smart casual" or "smart elegant" to avoid disappointment.
