With the Coronation of King Charles on the horizon, there’s plenty of ways to celebrate in Darlington and the surrounding areas.

From a screening of the Coronation to street parties to organised lunches, if you’re planning on getting the most out of the bank holiday weekend, there’ll be something happening near you.

Here is a selection of events happening across the weekend of May 6-7.

Coronation screening in Darlington Market Square

This screen will be live broadcasting the Coronation ceremony on Saturday, May 6, and the Coronation Concert on Sunday, May 7.

Big screens will be available in public places across the UK to show the Coronation, giving you the opportunity to come together with your local community and celebrate the historic moment.

This is a free and public event.

As well as the screening of the main event, Darlington Borough Council is also having live entertainment throughout the day.

There will be live music from the Soldiers of Swing and Discography.

Pimms and Needles will also be hosting free workshops in a craft marquee.

Great Aycliffe Coronation Big Lunch

Great Aycliffe Town Council is holding a Big Lunch to celebrate the King’s Coronation.

Neighbours and communities across the United Kingdom are being invited to share food and fun together at Coronation Big Lunches on Sunday, May 7 2023, in a nationwide act of celebration and friendship.

The event is taking place at the Town Park on Sunday, May 7 2023, between 1pm and 4pm. The event will feature free live entertainment from Aycliffe and Brancepeth Brass Band, Jenna Highfield, The Shine Choir, Scottish Piper, and Stilt Walkers.

Other attractions include children’s fairground rides, facepainting, and a mobile food van, a fee applies to these items.
