A number of residents in several North East towns heard a ‘roar’ overhead as a huge RAF airbus was spotted in the sky.

An RAF Atlas took a short trip over Darlington, Middleton St George and Middlesbrough this afternoon.

According to FlightRadar, the huge airbus has travelled much of the country after taking off from RAF Brize Norton.

Making its way up from the south the aircraft then circled Middlesbrough and Stockton before passing over Darlington as well.

One person said: “passed over my house, loved the noise.”

Another added: “Love hearing that roar as they pass Eston Hills.”
