A North East building has been named in a list of the UK's ugliest buildings.

Every city or town in the UK has distinctive buildings - some of which can be classed as 'ugly' while others can be spotted as 'beautiful'. 

It can be a divisive issue as people tend to have strong opinions on architecture, with some people loving what others hate.

So, one company decided to take to one of our most popular social media platforms to get an idea of what people’s opinions really are on some of the country’s most well-known buildings.

A builders merchant, Buildworld, has curated a long list of buildings in the UK that have been referenced on Twitter.

The team has used a sentiment analysis tool called HuggingFace to analyse the percentage of tweets that were negative about each building’s design.

Using the data, they have created a list of the top ten ugliest buildings.

Within the data, Redcar's Beacon building has been cited as the eighth-ugliest building in the UK.

Sticking above Redcar, the structure has been called 'disgusting' and 'an eyesore' - while some others called it a 'significant' building for the North East.

The structure was closed at points in 2022 following worries that teenagers could injure themselves after youngsters climbed over the railings on the top of it.

  3. Preston Train Station, Preston - 20.24%
  4. Royal Liverpool Hospital, Liverpool - 14.5%

  6. One Hyde Park, London - 13.15%
  7. Bridgewater Place, Leeds - 12.14%
  8. Redcar Beacon, Redcar - 11.94%
  9. Balfron Tower, London - 10.87%
  10. Shankly Hotel, Liverpool - 10.8%
