A well-known hotel has thrown open it’s doors to guests following an extensive refurbishment.

The Park Head Hotel in Bishop Auckland will welcome visitors again from February 1 after a total overhaul of the lodging.

The newly refurbished venue offers 38 en-suite rooms with a revamped restaurant and bar, promising ‘tempting’ dishes made from local produce.

General Manager of the Park Head, Andrew Hogg, told The Northern Echo: “We are delighted to be able to reopen the newly refurbished Park Head Hotel and Restaurant.

“The hotel has been at the heart of the local community for many years, and we are excited to welcome guests from near and far to both the hotel and restaurant.”

The Auckland Project, which works to bring about positive change for those living in Bishop Auckland, purchased the hotel in May 2021 with work to adapt it ongoing ever since.

The new restaurant, the Oak Room Restaurant and Bar, boasts seating for 80 diners with breakfast, lunch and dinner options. Bosses say the menu will offer ‘timeless classics with a twist’.

Local produce from the Walled Garden of the nearby Auckland Castle, also managed by the Auckland Project, will be used on the menu.

As well as work to the interior, outdoor areas have been landscaped and refreshed. Some areas of the hotel, including some rooms, are also dog friendly.

Design consultant, Sarah Fortin Townsend who has been overseeing the refurbishment from the start, said: “While we want to provide visitors with quality accommodation, beautifully wholesome food and a warm welcome, making sure the Park Head continues to be an important place for local residents of Bishop Auckland has remained paramount throughout the project.

“It will be wonderful to see the Park Head come to life again in the new year and we look forward to welcoming everyone back to explore and enjoy everything it has to offer.”

The Northern Echo took a sneak peak around the venue on Monday (January 30) ahead of its reopening at the beginning of February.
