The oldest dog in rescue at an RSPCA rehoming animal centre near Middlesbrough is hoping potential adopters will look beyond her age and offer her the perfect retirement home.

Staff at the charity’s rehoming centre in Yarm Lane, Great Ayton, say ‘super active’ 15-year-old Roxy still has a spring in her step and loves nothing more than chasing her beloved tennis ball over and over again.

Signed over with another younger dog into RSPCA care at the beginning of October after her previous owner was finding it difficult having pets and young children at home, she is currently the oldest animal at the centre, but has sadly had little interest from potential adopters since.

Apart from some minor ag- related conditions, which are fairly normal for a dog of her age, she is in good health, and kennel supervisor Erin Dixon says that apart from her tell-tale grey muzzle, you wouldn’t know she was a dog in her twilight years.

Erin said: “Roxy really doesn’t deserve to be in kennels at this stage in her life and we urgently want to find her a quiet retirement home with a comfy bed of her own.

“She has the best temperament you could ask for in a dog, and we’ve introduced her to so many people since she’s been here and she just takes it all in her stride.

“We think Roxy’s age may be putting people off, but she’s super active and has still got so much life left in her!

“She’ll ask you to throw her tennis ball for her again and again and then go back to her kennel and settle down for a long snooze in her bed.

“She’s just a wonderful, very loving, easy-going dog who likes the simple things in life and will make a wonderful companion for the right family.”

Roxy gets on well with other dogs and could also potentially be rehomed with a family who have children, although she can’t live with cats.
