Patrons of a bakery in Sunderland may get a little more than they had bargained for - as the establishment is claimed to be haunted by the spirit of a former resident.
The Greggs shop, located on Sea Road, Fulwell, Sunderland, is subject to all kinds of garden-variety ghostly goings-on, such as banging and clattering, strange smells, and electronics switching on by themselves.
This haunting does fly a little under the radar in favour of more well-known haunts in the region, but employees vow that they have had unexplained experiences in the shop.

However, patrons do not need to fear, as employees claim that paranormal phenomena are caused by the friendly spirit of an old woman, who lived in the building before it was a bakery.
Most customers seem not to have noticed anything of the paranormal - reviews online make no mention of the spectre, with one reviewer docking a star for only being a "normal Greggs".
Recently, the resident spectre has been brought back into local prominence by TikTok star Kathrine, who goes by the name "North East Nostalgic". Kathrine explores the North East's social history and heritage - including alleged hauntings!

About the Greggs on Sea Road, Kathrine explained: "An old-fashioned lavender smell is said to linger after a spirit pays a visit, and kettles are found unexpectedly boiling, and banging is heard when the shop's radio is too loud."
Kathrine has covered similar hauntings across Sunderland - such as The Ship Isis pub, which is allegedly the haunt of notorious North East murderess Mary Ann Cotton, who may have buried the bodies of two of her victims in tunnels that lead from the pub to the River Wear.
The Northern Echo did approach Greggs' press office for comment on their resident ghoul, but they have yet to get back to us.
