A man who plied a teenage girl with cocaine and booze sexually assaulted her before he offered her £20 to keep quiet.

Carl Jobson supplied the girl with the drugs and alcohol before trying to kiss her and put his hands down her trousers.

The 33-year-old targeted the girl while she was standing in his kitchen during the summer of 2018.

Teesside Crown Court heard how the victim passed out when the cocaine and alcohol kicked in and the girl confronted Jobson when she woke up.

Jonathan Walker, prosecuting, said the victim eventually plucked up the courage to report the incident in September 2020.

He said: “She was given alcohol and cocaine by the defendant; she willingly consumed two lines of cocaine and drank some of the alcohol.

“In the kitchen, he stood to the right of her and repeatedly tried to kiss her. He then put his hand in her trousers before she knocked his hand away and she said no.

“Afterwards, the defendant acted as if nothing had happened. The alcohol and cocaine kicked in and she blacked out.”

Mr Walker said the defendant offered the girl £20 to go out shopping and then the sexual assault was never spoken of again.

In a victim impact statement, the teenager said she no longer felt safe around men and struggled to go out on her own or with friends but told her abuser that she forgave him.

She added: “I need you to know that I forgive you but I will never forget what you did to me – I need to forgive so that I can move on.

“I have struggled with life since; I can no longer walk down the street and feel safe.”

Jobson, of Fulbeck Road, Middlesbrough, pleaded guilty to two charges of sexual assault and one of attempted sexual assault at a property in East Cleveland between July and August 2018.

Tom Mitchell, mitigating, urged the judge to pass a suspended sentence rather than an immediate, short custodial one so that his client can access support to address his behaviour.

Recorder Benjamin Nolan KC adjourned sentencing to enable the probation service time to assess whether they can create a suitable programme for the defendant.

He said: “If they identify a strict sex offender programme, by way of an alternative to an immediate prison sentence, I will look favourably at a suspended sentence but if there isn’t there will be an immediate custodial sentence.”

Jobson will appear before the same judge next week for sentence.
