A thug who punched and robbed a teenager of his bike just 20 days after he was released from prison is back behind bars.

Michael Pattison targeted the boy after he had spent the day drinking and taking cocaine at a funeral in Middlesbrough.

The 26-year-old came across the boy cycling on Park Road South, next to Albert Park, in Middlesbrough, before punching him to the ground and stealing his bike.

Jonathan Gittins, prosecuting, said Pattison was pursued by members of the public before smashing into an Audi and been held down until police arrived on June 29 this year.

The court heard how Pattison he had been released half way through a six-year-four-month sentence for wounding with a knife. He was recalled to prison to serve the full sentence.

Pattison, of Nelson House, Middlesbrough, pleaded guilty to robbery and criminal damage.

Emma Williams, in mitigation, said that her client could not explain why he had attacked the boy but accepted it must have been "in a moment of madness".

Ms Williams said that her client had been drinking and had taken cocaine that day.

Pattison accepted that he had caused between £2,500 to £3000 to the parked Audi A7 as well as damage to the bike he'd tried to steal.

Recorder Nathan Adams handed Pattison an 18-month prison sentence which will run concurrently to the three-years he has been recalled to prison to serve.

He added: “You now find yourself with two very serious offences on your record and if you find yourself in trouble in the future the judge could treat you as very dangerous.”
