Warnings of thunderstorms in the North East over the last couple of days have now subsided with dryer, calmer weather forecast over the next couple of days.

The North East will see temperatures of up to 17C today (Wednesday, August 17) as temperatures cool down after last week’s heatwave.

According to the Met Office it will be a cloudy start for many in the region but this will clear and allow for some sunny spells.

Tonight it is expected to stay dry with sunshine and some patchy cloud as temperatures could dip to as low as 7C.

Thunderstorms expected over the last couple of days came to nothing for most of the region despite some rain falling for the first time in weeks in some areas.
