Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen has again written to Tesla boss Elon Musk urging him to build a factory in the region.

Houchen first wrote to Musk in 2020 to highlight why Teesside might be the optimal location for Tesla's planned Gigafactory expansion.

Now he has repeated the plea - telling Musk: "The case for Tesla to come to our region has strengthened considerably. We can offer hundreds of acres of ideal developable land, identified and ready for development, with unrivalled road, rail, air and sea connectivity - meaning Tesla would not have to contend with the kind of bureaucratic entanglements seen at other sites.

"Teesside has political leaders with a can-do attitude, and can get work started on site in a matter of months if you are prepared to grasp this opportunity. We offer a great local skills base and supply chain in the automotive, clean energy, design, computing, and chemicals sectors.

"This is an opportunity to deliver Tesla's next Gigafactory in a region which is becoming recognised as a global leader in cutting-edge clean technology. I would urge you to contact me as soon as possible to discuss how Tesla can become a big part of this movement."

There is no news so far of a response from the Tesla chief.
