Callous yobs have damaged and stolen handmade memorial sunflowers installed as part of a charity initiative.
Cleveland Police say they were 'saddened' to receive reports of the damage caused to the Teesside Hospice flowers tied to the railings at Saltburn Pier.
The flowers are bought by people who want to leave a tribute to a lost loved one at the pier and the scheme helps raise vital funds for the hospice.
A police spokesman said: "The handmade sunflowers are a beautiful and comforting tribute to lost loved ones and are part of the vital work carried out by Teesside Hospice, which will now have to find the money to replace the stolen or defaced flowers.
"If anyone sees anybody damaging or tampering with the display, please contact police on the 101 number.
"Such behaviour will not be tolerated, and we would appeal for anyone with information on who may have been responsible for the recent damage and thefts to contact Cleveland Police on the 101 number."
