Simply Red lifted the non-existent roof at the Darlington Arena as they played to thousands of fans at the weekend.

The Manchester-formed band wowed the crowds at Darlington's Mowden Park as part of their current tour.

Performing some of their biggest hits from the 1980s on Saturday, the setlist included 'Holding Back The Year' and 'Stars.'

Gabrielle was also there supporting Simply Red.

The band are currently touring the UK on their latest tour, performing at venues across the country including in Edinburgh, Scarbrough and Colchester before embarking on a European leg later this year.

Last year when the gig was announced Darlington Arena Manager Danny Brown said: “It’s great for us to be able to welcome Simply Red to the Arena for what is becoming a busy summer of music.”

Simply Red are the latest in a line of well-known artists who have performed in the North East this summer, including gigs by Ed Sheeran and Elton John in Sunderland, and Diana Ross and Michael Bublé in Chester-Le-Street.

Paloma Faith was also set to play the Darlington Arena last month (July 16) but the concert was cancelled in May due to unforeseen circumstances.
